Opinion: Is Ruben Loftus-Cheek wasting his time at Chelsea?

Harry Winks and Loftus-Cheek, are names popular with their respective clubs - Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. However, there's one thing that separates the English duo, and that is game-time. While Winks is enjoying 423 minutes under Pochettino, Loftus-Cheek on the other hand is limited to only a mere 93 minutes this season under Sarri.

The talented midfielder who played 24 Premier League games last season at Selhurst Park, stayed at Chelsea this season with hopes that he'll be given a chance to really prove his worth. But, things aren't going the right direction. Only limited to Europa League and League Cup games, certainly Loftus-Cheek deserves more.

To make things more confusing and odd, the Chelsea midfielder has 10 international appearances under his belt whereas his English compatriot, Winks, only managed 3. Does this mean that with Loftus-Cheek's talent and abililty, it's a waste if he just sits on the bench and not starting for the Blues?

Opinion by our Football Critic

" We all know that Ruben has immense talent. He is one of the best hopes that we've got for an academy player finally breaking into the first-team. I personally think he's talented enough to make it at any top club in the top 6. But I am not going to sugarcoat the fact that his odds of making it at Chelsea are not very high, and it has nothing to do with him. It's the situation at the Club. We are currently blessed with three immensely talented attacking midfielders in Ruben, Barkley and Kovacic.

But I am not going to sugarcoat the fact that his odds of making it at Chelsea are not very high, and it has nothing to do with him.

Furthermore, with Mason Mount coming back next season with a great season in his bag, Ruben's position at the club depends a lot on the Kovacic's situation. If we do make it his deal permanent, it's over for Ruben at the LCM (Left Centre-Mid) spot.

However, if he can adapt to playing as a box-to-box player which he did play for the academy, he might even break up into the team. So to sum it up, Ruben should not go out on loan in January, and has to take every opportunity Sarri gives him and try to overtake Barkley in the pecking order. But if he doesn't manage to do it, Kovacic signs a new deal, as much as it hurts me to say it, Ruben should leave permanently for the sake of his career. He's got immense talent and will definitely turn out to be a great player, but sadly it may not be at Chelsea. "
